This makes me laugh because I have the exact same problem! Except I have a little 10 pound Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix and my and my boyfriend's concern is not getting blanket-snatched by our dog, but rather whether or not we'll squish her!

She also loves to squeeze in right between the two of us. Of course, we toss and turn and each randomly wake up at certain points of the night exclaiming, "Where's Irie?!" Distraught, we fear one of us may have suffocated her during the night. But, as always she'll be snuggled sound asleep in some part of the bed. She usually lifts her head, squinty eyes, with a look on her face like "What? Why are we awake?" I haven't found a solution yet, but we're starting to get used to it and starting to trust that she'll wake us right up if she's not getting the space she needs.

I love the idea of the mattress carpeted floor!

I think you maybe should just carpet the entire floor with mattress. A floor sized bed is in order. That way they can snuggle and you won't ever feel crowded.

The solution(s):
a) bigger bed
and/or
b) bigger duvet.

a) usually solves the problem of stray husbands sleeping diagonally across the bed as well.
